arron the not so smart

Postby the_Klayazz » Thu Jan 01, 2009 11:38 am

well i ventured into circuit bending again today but i wanted to take it one step further, i wanted to see how i could incorparate it into my video work
so i picked up a cheap hi8 camera (£30 bargin) and my original intention was to add some body contacts to add glitch effects to the live recording of the footage (a thing i have don many a time with the instruments i have built) but as soon as i cracke dthe camerai spotted the tape deck and was reminded of a bent instrument i built with a tape recorder, and the sound was created by adjusting the speed of the tape, so i had a quick venture into this by adding some dials and switchs to the speed adjustment of the camera and to my amazement i had bent it in such a way that i can now record in slow motion

i tested it out by getting my dad to hold the camera and record whilst i threw water at a wall, the result was beautiful, the camera now has the potential to record at an estimate of 230 FPS which all of you should know is quite fast compared to the normal 24fps

this is quite an achievment for me, i now have a slow motion captureing camera and not like those shitty new hdd cameras that can record 4 sec of slow motion

the only problem is this camera only has an analog output  so the footage i have cant be uploaded and im not forking out £60 for a shitty analog to usb capture device, i will however upload some footage of the camera with the attachments and the captured footage which ill record off of the tv but only when i get back home and when the camera looks more...professinal rather than being held together with tape and alligator clips

but im also intrested in what other bends i could do to the camera whilst it is open......... any suggestions?

For like 25£ you can get an asus p7131 svhs+analog tv capture card. Ive got one myself and it works pretty good. Recorded this off my PS1:

sorry im in america currently staying with my boyfriend

well i wont be able to use the camera anymore casue my house was robbed and the fuckers took that and all my other cameras, luckily im insured so i can get some new cameras

when i get back (april) i wil buy another cheap camera and circuit bend it
ut for now i have purchased a HD HDD camcorder which has a slow motion feature

and its....ok, it films slow motion in standard definition which is what i didnt expect but oh well

im currently experimenting with filming with DSLR cameras, capturing photographs at 24 FPS and then assembling the photographs into a video file using monkeyjam, and recording audio on a seperate device

this sounds crazy but it works wonders, for starters its better than high defintion film purely becasue i can zoom in on the video files without pixal damage
its very professinal looking, only problem is i can only take 5 mins worth of footage casue cameras owner doesnt have a SD card for mthe cam yet

oh well, ill keep testing different methods and post results once i get good ones

Only problem with zooming into footage in the post production is the quality loss, I mean if you have got a HD camera for that reason then with digital zoom you can easily reduce the quality to something of the quality of a normal camera. But I'm sure that you've considered this already lol. Hope you having a good time, a week in the US was enough for me - it's good to be back in the true land of the free to be honest.

Have you had many new projects done yet? I have been pretty busy.

yes the zooming into post production is a challange many face, with my new HD cam i can digitally zoom in more without loss as the filming quality is 1,280 - 720
in widescreen format, but the DSLR camera with the 24 - 30 fps photo capture takes photos at 2,460 - 1960, assemble these frames together into a video without loss and the digital zoom is wonderfull

i use this alot in my stopmotions, i can zoom in and there is barley if none quality loss casue of the high quality photos

also yes im having a great time in america, the people are awsome iv seen some wondefull sites and the meals...man iv gained a bit but it will wear off once im back in england

iv seen the big protests and the racists now there real scary, i feel sad when i see the homeless walking the street, its not like england, the homeless are in huge quantaties, they walk barefoot in the cold and wet, and i passed on sleeping on a bench outside the kwiki-mart (there real), oh well, he will live

I came back feeling really bloated from the amount of fatty foods that you get fed. I was never hungry, and had always just eaten a burger or something when I was over there. It's annoying how you can very rarely get anything "light" to eat. A lot more homeless yeah, I think it's due to the economic structure of the country.
